Scholarship Requirements:

 

  • Minimum CGPA: 3.7
  • Minimum ACT score: 25
  • Foreign Students must have a TOEFL score of 575 or above.
  • Major: Any
  • High school senior from Hawaii, the South Pacific, or Asian rim (Two recipients are selected annually from each of the three areas.)
  • Must be an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • Candidate must have demonstrated leadership ability and contributed in church, school, or civic affairs and show achievement in music, art, speech, or sports.
  • Bishop's or Branch President's recommendation
  • Two teacher recommendations
  • Enrolled at BYU-Hawaii for 15 credit hours per semester (6 credits per term)
  • Abide by the Honor Code of the University
  • Candidate must show positive behavior, attitude, and participation in all aspects of community life.

Award Information: The David O. McKay Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship offered at BYU-Hawaii. It pays tuition and a half for four years (equivalent of 8 semesters and 4 terms). Selection is on a competitive basis. Please check our list of past recipients.

 

Application: To apply for this scholarship, either contact the Scholarship Office and ask for a David O. McKay Scholarship application to be sent to you or download a McKay Scholarship Application Form. The application must be completed and returned to the Scholarship office prior to the deadline listed above.

Notification: All applicants will be notified by mail no later than June 30th as to whether they have received this scholarship. If you do not receive a letter by June 30th , you may contact the Scholarship Office. Contact information is listed below.

To Retain This Scholarship:

  • Complete a minimum of 36 credit hours each academic year
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5
