Unsubsidized Stafford Loans
Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are non-need based awards. If you do not qualify for other types of Federal Aid, including Pell Grants or Subsidized Stafford Loans and still need funding for your college education, you may want to consider Unsubsidized Stafford Loans.
If you would like to receive an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, you must submit a Loan Request Form to the Financial Aid Office.

Repayment
Because you have to repay all of the interest and capital of the loan, we strongly encourage you to begin repayment immediately after it begins accruing interest, which is after the second disbursement. If you do not pay the interest, it will be capitalized. Allowing the interest to capitalize will result in you paying more interest on your loan than if you began paying it immediately. This calculator will allow you to see the effect different payment plans will have on the amount of interest you pay.
Interest Rates & Fees
The interest rate of this loan is adjusted yearly on July 1st, and cannot exceed 8.25%. Depending on the lender selected, an origination fee may be assessed; this fee is collected by the lender before the money is sent to the University. The loan becomes payable six months after the student graduates or drops below half time.
Lenders
If you have previously had a Stafford Loan, we advise you to continue with the same lender in order to simplify the repayment process.
