For All Students Seeking Employment

Terms And Conditions Of Employment

In accepting employment at Brigham Young University--Hawaii, I agree to observe the Honor Code, the Dress and Grooming Standards, and University policies.

I understand that the employment relationship exists at the will of either party and may be terminated at any time with appropriate notice and for any cause whatsoever or no cause, other than for reasons prohibited by law.

Inasmuch as my employment is at will, I understand that no employee or officer of the University can make any contrary employment commitments or assurances, unless by a written agreement executed by a BYU-Hawaii vice president.

I acknowledge that the University personnel policies and procedures do not constitute a contract nor an implied contract and that these procedures may be changed or withdrawn according to the need or discretion of the University administration.

I understand that I must carry 12 credit hours each in the fall and winter semesters and 6 hours in the spring term to hold a student job and be allowed to work the number of hours approved by BYU-Hawaii.

I understand that in order to work full time hours in the summer term, I must be registered in 6 credit hours for spring and advance registered for 12 credit hours in the fall semester.

I understand that I can work up to only 19 hours during the fall and winter semesters and up to 8 hours a day when school is not in session, i.e., semester/term breaks and summer term. I further understand that when I am working full-time I cannot work more than 40 hours per week total without prior approval through Student Employment Services.

I agree that if I am a new student to BYU-Hawaii, or a former student returning after an absence of one semester, that I will not be able to start working until two weeks before school begins.

If I am a participant in the International Work Experience Scholarship (IWES) program, I understand that I must work at the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC). I also understand that employment at BYU-Hawaii may be considered if I meet the following requirements:

  1. 90 total earned hours
  2. One year (two semesters and two terms) left to graduate
  3. Approval from the IWES & Student Employment Board (ISEB)

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT IS NOT COVERED BY UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE [State of Hawaii HRS 383-7, Vol 07, (9)(b)(c)]

I acknowledge that I have read and understand this policy.
