Seasiders Down Pomona-Pitzer

Los Angeles, CA-James Jacobson scored with just 16 seconds left in the match to give 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii an 8-7 win over Pomona-Pitzer in the consolation round of the Western Water Polo Association Tournament today. The goal, Jacobson's fourth of the match, gave the Seasiders the win against a Pomona-Pitzer team that had defeated them by one goal earlier in the season.

Seasiders Drop Game to Bulldogs

Los Angeles, CA-The 16-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s water polo team fell to fifth-seeded Redlands 8-4 today in the Western Water Polo Association Championship. The Seasiders finish the season with a 12-9 record.

Seasiders Get Fourth Seed

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University Hawaii water polo team was awarded the fourth seed in the Western Water Polo Association Tournament to be played Thursday through Saturday at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, California. The Seasiders will face fifth-seeded Redlands in their first match of the tournament on Thursday at 11:10 am.

Seasiders Stay at 16

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team held their ground in the Collegiate Water Polo Poll this week at number 16. The Seasiders played only an exhibition match this past week, winning 15-9 over the Hawaiian Masters, but still managed to receive five more points in the voting than last week.

Seasiders Win Last Home Game

Laie, HI- The Brigham Young University Hawaii water polo team defeated the Hawaii Masters 15-9 at their last home game of the season. The game started off closely with both teams scoring identically for the first two quarters. However, the Seasiders took off in the third and fourth quarters, scoring four to the Masters' two in the third and six to two in the fourth quarter.

Seasiders Back in Poll

Laie, HI-After spending three weeks outside the top twenty the Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team jumped back into the Collegiate Water Polo Poll this week. The Seasiders rose to the 16th spot in the poll after winning two of four matches against ranked teams in California last week.

Seasiders Win in Sudden Death

Davis, CA-Brigham Young University Hawaii's water polo team got a lucky break at the end of the second overtime and then defeated 18th-ranked Air Force 11-10 on a sudden-death overtime goal by Jamie Jacobson today in their final match of the Aggie Shootout Tournament. Koen Plasmeijer tied the game with one second left in the second overtime on a penalty shot as the Seasiders improved to 12-8 for the season.

Seasiders Defeated by 9th-Ranked Pacific

Davis, CA-The Brigham Young University Seasiders suffered a 13-9 loss against the number nine ranked Pacific Tigers at the UC Davis Tournament in California today. The game was close the whole way, tied after the first quarter 2-2, but the Tigers slowly took the lead by outscoring the Seasiders 2-1 in the second quarter.

BYUH Wins

Davis, CA-Brigham Young University Hawaii's water polo team bounced back from an earlier loss today to defeat Santa Clara, 9-5, in the Aggie Shootout Tournament at UC-Davis. The Seasiders started fast and took a 5-2 lead at halftime in improving to 11-7 for the season.

Aggies Down Seasiders

Davis, CA-Brigham Young University Hawaii's water polo team could not overcome eight man-advantage goals and a penalty-shot goal as they lost to tenth-ranked UC-Davis today, 13-9, today to fall to 10-7 for the season. The host Aggies scored eight out of the eleven times they drew Seasider ejections and got a goal on a four-meter penalty shot to stymie the Seasiders.

Seasiders Show Love to Banana Slugs

Santa Cruz, CA-Brigham Young University Hawaii's water polo team got a pair of goals from Chris Love and defeated UC-Santa Cruz today, 6-3, to open a five-game road trip in California. The Seasiders broke away from a 1-1 halftime tie to improve to 10-6 for the season.

Seasiders Win Twice Back to Back

Honolulu, HI- The Brigham Young University Seasiders defeated two teams back to back today. First BYU-Hawaii battled Chaminade and came out on top 18-9. Then the Seasiders turned around and began warming up for their exhibition game against the Hawaii Masters which they won 10-8. The Chaminade win boosts the Seasiders' record to 9-6 for the season.

Seasiders Finish California Trip With a Win

Claremont, CA- Brigham Young University Hawaii's water polo team finished off the Claremont Convergence tournament this evening with a 13-11 win against the Occidental College Tigers. They finished off the tournament with three wins and one loss and improved their record to 8-6 for the season.

Seasiders Suffer Close Loss

Pomona, CA- The 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii Seasiders had a tough loss against Pomona-Pitzer this afternoon. The final score was 7-6 Pomona, another extremely close loss for BYU-Hawaii. The teams were neck and neck the entire game. Both teams scored two points a quarter for the first three quarters, but in the fourth quarter, the Broncos scored one and the Seasiders scored nothing.

Seasiders Collar Bulldogs

Calremont,CA—The 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii Seasiders defeated the number 17-ranked University of Redlands Bulldogs in a close 6-5 match tonight. The win improves the Seasiders' record to 7-5 on the season and 2-0 in the Claremont Convergence Tournament.

Seasiders Get Back to Winning

Claremont, CA—The 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team got back into the win column today with an 8-6 win over Brown on the first day of the Claremont Convergence Tournament. The Seasiders, now 6-5 on the season, broke away from a defensive 2-2 tie at halftime with six second-half goals to earn the win.

Seasiders Suffer Another Tough Loss

Riverside, CA—The 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team lost their third straight match of their California road trip today to Cal Baptist, 7-6, to fall to 5-5 on the season. The Lancers came from behind and David Torna scored the winning goal with just ten seconds left in the match to frustrate the Seasiders with a second consecutive 7-6 loss. The loss was also the third straight time the Seasiders lost by just one goal.

Seasiders Fall to Cal Baptist

Riverside, CA—The 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team lost their second match of the day today to Cal Baptist, 7-6, to fall to 5-4 on the season. The Seasiders started slowly, falling behind 4-1 at the half, but rallied to within one with 32 seconds left and got the ball back with a chance to tie after a block by goalie Kenny Nicholas. However, the Seasiders couldn't hold onto the ball and fell just short.

Poets Edge Seasiders

Riverside, CA—The 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team lost the first game of their seven-game road trip to California today, falling to Whittier in double overtime, 10-9, on a last-second goal. Seasider goalie Kenny Nicholas got his arm on the final shot as the horn sounded but the ball ricocheted off into the water and floated into the goal to drop the Seasiders to 5-3 on the season.

Seasiders Stay Put

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team stayed in place this week in the Collegiate Water Polo Poll. The Seasiders remained in the 16th spot in the poll after being idle last week when their only scheduled match, an exhibition against the Hawaiian masters, was cancelled due to lightning.

Seasiders Jump One Spot

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team jumped up a notch this week in the Collegiate Water Polo Poll after four victories last week. The Seasiders leap-frogged Redlands to take over the 16th spot in the poll after defeating La Verne and Claremont-McKenna twice each last week.

Seasiders Drub Leopards

Laie, HI-The 17th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team scored the first six goals of the match and went on to defeat La Verne today, 19-3, in the opening match of the BYU-Hawaii Water Polo Tournament being held at the BYU-Hawaii pool. Nine different players scored for the Seasiders, who evened their record for the season to 2-2.

Seasiders Hold Firm in Poll

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team stayed put at number 17 today in the National Collegiate Top 20 poll. The Seasiders defeated Chaminade last week in their only action to improve to 1-2 on the young season.

Seasiders Get First Win

Laie, HI-The 17th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team broke into the win column for the first time this season tonight with an 18-5 drubbing of Chaminade. The Seasiders scored the first 12 goals of the match and cruised to the win with ten different players scoring goals.

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team slipped a notch today in the National Collegiate Top 20 poll. The Seasiders were ranked 17th this week after spending the first two weeks of the poll in the 16th position. The Seasiders were idle last week, playing only an exhibition match against the Hawaiian Masters, after losing twice to top-ranked UCLA to open the season.

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team defeated the Hawaiian Masters today in an exhibition match, 17-9, at the BYU-Hawaii pool. The Seasiders scored the first three goals of the match and never looked back as seven different players got into the scoring column.

Seasiders Hold Ranking

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team held its position as the 16th-ranked team in the nation in the National Collegiate Top 20 poll released today. The Seasiders were ranked sixteenth in the preseason poll and held firm despite a pair of losses last week to top-ranked UCLA.

Seasiders Lose Again to Top-Ranked Bruins

Laie, HI-The 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team dropped their second match of the season tonight to top-ranked UCLA, 16-6. The Seasiders fell behind the defending national champion Bruins 7-2 at halftime but gave the BYU-Hawaii crowd of 308 something to cheer about by blasting in three goals in the third period to keep the game interesting.

Seasiders Fall to Top-Ranked Bruins

Laie, HI-The 16th-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's water polo team opened the season tonight with a loss to top-ranked UCLA, 15-4. The Seasiders hung with the defending national champion Bruins for one quarter, trailing only 2-1 after the first period. However, the talented Bruins pulled away with a 6-0 second period and the Seasiders could not catch up.

16th-Ranked BYUH to Face #1 UCLA

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team will open the season this Saturday as the 16th-ranked team in the nation according to the National Collegiate Water Poll announced today. The Seasiders, coming off a 16-4 season in which they finished 14th in the national poll, are the second-highest ranked Division II team in the cross-divisional poll (UC-San Diego is eighth), and is fourth among Western Water Polo Association Teams behind UC-San Diego, Loyola Marymount (ninth), and UC-Davis (14th).

Water Polo Signs Grosshans

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team announced the signing of Oxnard, California star Erik Grosshans to a letter of intent to play collegiately for the Seasiders. Grosshans, a 6-0, 160-pound driver, scored 130 goals this past season as he led Oxnard High School to a 22-3 record and the championship of the Pacific View League. He was named the Oxnard High Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive year after he led the team in scoring, assists (with 108), and ejections and was named to the All-Ventura County Team as well as the Tri-County All-Star Team.

Water Polo Signs JC All-American

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team announced the signing of Junior College All-American Brett Hearn to a letter of intent to play for the Seasiders. Hearn, a 6-0, 185-pound utility man, led Merced College (CA) with 73 goals this past season and was named Best Offensive Player by his teammates. He was also named to the Nor Cal Water Polo First Team and the Bay Valley League First Team.

Water Polo Signs Top Recruit

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team announced the signing of Murrieta, California utility player Jory Johnson to a letter of intent to play collegiately for the Seasiders. Johnson, a 6-0, 175-pound lefthander, was named an All-American while playing for Murrieta Valley High School. He also received First-Team All CIF Division 5 honors, All South Western League First-Team and Most Valuable Player, All South West Valley First Team and Player of the Year, and Fourth-Team All Southern California.

Water Polo Signs Kehrig

Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men's water polo team announced the signing of Alamo, California standout Jim Kehrig to a letter of intent to play collegiately for the Seasiders. Kehrig, a 6-3, 190-pound utility man, scored 118 goals this past season as he led San Ramon Valley High School to an 18-8 record. He led the team is scoring, ejections, and assists and was named the East Bay League Most Valuable Player.
