Women Open Regionals

Ramona Husaru (shown at last spring's national tournament) is the second seed at the Wilson/ITA West Regionals

La Jolla, CA-Brigham Young University Hawaii's Julia Ustyuzhanina and Ramona Husaru each won their opening singles matches at the Wilson/ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) West Regionals today. The Seasiders received a bye in doubles play today but will play both singles and doubles tomorrow as the tournament continues. The Seasiders are seeded one and two in singles and number one in doubles.

Ustyuzhanina, the top seed in the women's competition, blasted Amy Belsher of Sonoma State 6-0, 6-1, while Husaru, seeded second, drubbed Cal State-LA's Princess Manasseh 6-2, 6-0.

Tomorrow the duo will begin singles action at 9:00 am PDT with Ustyuzhanina taking on Renee Paquillo of Cal Poly Pomona and Husaru going against Bojana Ducanovich of Cal State-LA. The Seasiders will team up for their first doubles action at 1:30 pm PDT against Isis Jackson and Jennifer Avila of Cal State-LA. The tournament continues through Saturday.
