Seasiders Top PacWest

Elwen Li (shown in earlier action) was named MVP of the PacWest Tournament today

St. George, UT—The top-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team won the Pacific West Conference championship today by defeating Hawaii Pacific 5-1 at the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Tournament. The Seasiders took two of the three doubles matches and then picked up wins in three singles matches as they improved to 25-0 for the season and won for the 85th consecutive time.

Elwen Li and Maggie Deng claimed an 8-1 win at the top doubles spot and Becky Lu and Ramona Husaru took an 8-4 win at number two doubles to stake BYU–Hawaii to an early lead. Li then romped to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles while Lu earned a 6-4, 6-0 win at the fourth singles slot and Jenny Chin scored a 6-4, 6-1 win at number five singles. BYU–Hawaii was leading in two of the unfinished singles matches when play was stopped. Li was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

The Seasiders will play UH-Hilo on April 19th in Laie at 2:00 pm HST.
