March 19, 2008 Seasiders Chew Up Big Red
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team won their 13th match of the season today with a 9-0 sweep of Division I Cornell. The Seasiders, ranked number one in NCAA II play, swept the doubles matches and then took all six singles matches as well to run their record to 13-0 this season. It was the 73rd consecutive win for BYU–Hawaii. Top-ranked Elwen Li swept to a 6-0, 6-2 win at number one singles after teaming with Maggie Deng for an 8-1 win at the top doubles slot. Deng, ranked sixth in DII play, claimed a 6-3, 6-0 win at number two singles. Ramona Husaru and Becky Lu faced a tough battle at the second doubles position but finally prevailed by a 9-8(4) score. Husaru then cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win at number three singles, but Lu was extended to a super-tiebreaker before winning at the fourth singles spot, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(5). Ayako Ikeda and Jenny Chin rounded out the doubles play with an 8-1 win at number three doubles and then each won matches at five and six singles respectively. The Seasiders will face Chaminade tomorrow in Waipio at 2:00 pm HST. Results: Singles: Doubles: |
