March 11, 2008 Seasiders Drop Emory
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team continued their winning ways today with a 9-0 sweep of NCAA III power Emory (GA). The Seasiders, ranked number one in NCAA II play, powered their way past the fourth-ranked visitors to run their record to 9-0 this season. It was the 69th consecutive win for BYU–Hawaii. Top-ranked Elwen Li swept to a 6-1, 6-0 win at number one singles while Ramona Husaru was scoring an identical triumph at the third singles position. Becky Lu won 6-3, 6-0 at number four singles and Maggie Deng took a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the second slot. The Seasiders had to work harder at the fifth and sixth positions for the wins, however. Ayako Ikeda battled to a 6-2, 4-6, (10-8) super-tiebreaker win at the fifth position and Jenny Chin had to rally from a first-set loss to record a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at the sixth singles spot. The Seasiders had little trouble during the ensuing doubles matches as Li and Deng took an 8-1 win at the top, Husaru and Lu scored an 8-0 whitewash at number two, and Ikeda and Chin claimed an 8-1 win at number three doubles. The Seasiders will face Division I Illinois State on Friday in Laie at 2:00 pm HST. Results: Singles: Doubles: |
