Women Sweep Vulcans

Hilo, HI—The top-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team improved to 5-0 for the season today with a 9-0 sweep of UH-Hilo on the road. The Seasiders swept the three doubles matches handily and won all six singles matches in straight sets for their 65th straight win and 298th in their last 300 matches.

Top-ranked Elwen Li claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top singles slot after teaming with partner Maggie Deng for an 8-2 win at number one doubles where the duo is also ranked first nationally. Deng also took a 6-3, 6-1 win at number five singles. Becky Lu won 6-4, 6-0 at number two singles and scored an 8-0 win at the third doubles spot with teammate Ramona Husaru who romped to a 6-1, 6-2 win at number four singles. Jenny Chin claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the third singles position and paired up with Ayako Ikeda for an 8-5 number two doubles win. Ikeda won 6-3, 6-3 at number six singles to close out the scoring for the Seasiders.

BYU–Hawaii will face UH-Hilo again tomorrow in Hilo at 9:00 am HST.
