BYUH Dominates Chaminade

Sarah Nibley and the Seasiders held the Silverswords without a shot on goal or a corner kick in today's match

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season today as the Seasiders defeated Chaminade 2-0 in a game that was not as close as the final score. The Seasiders dominated play throughout the game, out-shooting the Silverswords 29-0, but managed to find the net only once in each half.

Jill Haar broke through for the Seasiders in the 27th minute with a point-blank shot from right in front of the goal mouth with an assist on a nice pass from Kristi Astin and a tip of the ball by Sarah Welty. BYU–Hawaii took nine shots in the opening half but Haar’s was the only goal.

The Seasiders really put the pressure on Chaminade in the second half, getting off 20 shots, but once again scored just one time. In the 81st minute Allisa Dayley delivered a perfect crossing pass to Natasha Aiono and Aiono headed it into the back of the net for the final margin.

BYU–Hawaii Co-Captain Sarah Norton led a stingy defense for the Seasiders that kept the ball away from the Seasider goal all game. Astin, Kristina Nibley, and Britt Nielsen also stood out defensively for the Seasiders as the defense did not allow the Silverswords a single corner kick in the match, either.

Chaminade goalie Marissa Martin kept busy throughout the game and came up with 14 saves in the match.

BYU Hawaii’s next action will be against Northwood (TX) on Saturday in Laie at 11:00 am HST.
