September 18, 2007Seasiders Open Conference Play with Win
Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team opened Pacific West Conference play today with a 3-0 shutout of Grand Canyon on the road. The Seasiders, now 3-2-1 for the season and 1-0 in the PacWest, scored all three goals in the second half to down the Antelopes despite being out shot 20-9. BYU–Hawaii goalie Becky Ploeger turned away nine shots in the game and the Seasiders broke through in the 52nd minute on a goal by Hailey McKee off an assist by Kristina Nibley. That would prove to be all the Seasiders needed but they added a second goal in the 62nd minute when Stefanie Wright caught the Antelope goalie out of position and scored on a pass from Sarah Welty. Welty completed the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 70th minute for the Seasiders. BYU Hawaii’s next action will be up the road against Dixie State in another PacWest contest on Thursday in St. George, Utah at 1:00 pm MDT. |
