Seasiders Favored

Jill Haar (shown in last year's action) is the PacWest preseason Player of the Year

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii Women’s Soccer team was tabbed as the preseason favorite to claim the Pacific West Conference title this season in a poll of conference coaches released today. The Seasiders, despite being in just the second year of the program, received two first-place votes from the seven coaches and narrowly edged out conference newcomer Dixie State in the voting. Additionally, BYU–Hawaii’s senior forward Jill Haar was voted the preseason Player of the Year by the coaches.

BYU–Hawaii, under Coach Justin Wagar, finished second in the conference last season with a very young team and returns a strong nucleus of players this year. In addition to Haar, sophomore forward Emily Mearns and Senior defender Sarah Norton were picked as members of the preseason All-Conference team.

The Seasiders open the season on Monday in Laie against regional foe Central Washington at 2:00 pm.
