October 29, 2007Seasiders Fall to Rebels
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team lost a tough match with Dixie State today, 1-0, to fall behind the Rebels in the Pacific West Conference standings and into a tie for second with UH-Hilo. The Seasiders, now 11-6-1 overall and 8-2 in the conference, and the Rebels, 14-3-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the PacWest, battled each other on even terms throughout the match, but Dixie State got the only goal in the 71st minute on a long shot from the left side by Mikala Wilkes. The first half saw the two squads fighting it out in midfield as each team registered just two shots and no corner kicks in the scoreless opening period. The game opened up a bit more in the second half with both teams getting more scoring opportunities but the Rebels were able to capitalize on one of theirs and the Seasiders came away empty on each of theirs. Dixie State out-shot the Seasiders 9-8 for the game and had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks as well. BYU–Hawaii goalie Becky Ploeger made five saves and Rebel goalie Suzanne Hunt made two in the game. BYU Hawaii will face Grand Canyon in Laie on Wednesday at 1:00 pm HST. |
