Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team moved into first place in the Pacific West Conference today with a 2-1 victory over UH-Hilo. Senior co-captain Jill Haar scored both goals for the Seasiders as they took a 2-0 lead and held on for the win to improve to 11-5-1 for the season and 8-1 in the PacWest. UH-Hilo began the day in a tie with the Seasiders atop the conference standings but fell to 10-7 overall and 7-2 in the conference with the loss.

Haar opened the scoring in the 12th minute when she drilled in a shot off her own rebounded shot directly in front of the goal. She scored again off a direct kick in the 18th minute from long range. Her shot bounced over the head of Vulcan goalie Rebecca Delaney and into the net. The Vulcans scored just moments before the end of the first half, in the 45th minute, when Karissa Robertson dribbled in from the right side and beat BYU–Hawaii goalie Becky Ploeger.

Neither team could manage a goal in the second half despite both teams having opportunities. The Vulcans out-shot the Seasiders 5-3 after the break and 9-8 for the game and held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks for the game.

BYU Hawaii will face Dixie State on Monday in Laie. The Rebels go into this weekend with a 6-1-1 conference mark and a 12-3-1 overall record. The teams will play at 3:00 pm HST on Monday.
