Seasiders Blitz Sea Warriors

Laie, HI—Senior Jill Haar and freshman Sarah Welty scored twice each to lead the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Hawaii Pacific in a Pacific West Conference match today. The Seasiders, now 10-5-1 for the season and 7-1 in the PacWest, out-shot the Sea Warriors 10-4 and controlled play throughout the game as they moved into first place in the conference by a single point.

Haar opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal off a pass from Allisa Dayley. Welty gave the Seasiders a 2-0 halftime lead by knocking one in during the 40th minute with an assist from Haar and Natasha Aiono. The opening minutes of the second half produced a blaze of activity from the two teams. Haar scored in the 46th minute on a rebound of her own shot that was knocked down by Hawaii Pacific goalie Veronica Ellman and Welty followed less than a minute later with another assist from Aiono. In the 50th minute Hawaii Pacific’s Chelsie Sato scored off a free-kick pass from Kayleigh Paulin to end the scoring for the day.

BYU Hawaii’s will face UH-Hilo on Thursday in Laie with first place on the line. UH-Hilo handed the Seasiders their only conference defeat and is 6-1 in the PacWest. The teams will play at 3:30 pm HST.
