Laie, HI—In a continuing game of deja vu, the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team dominated Chaminade today everywhere but on the scoreboard before defeating the Silverswords 2-0 in a Pacific West Conference match marking the third time this season the Seasiders have defeated Chaminade by the same 2-0 score. As in the earlier matches, BYU–Hawaii controlled play throughout the game, out-shooting the Silverswords 16-1, but managed to find the net only twice in the second half.

Ashley Hunter scored the breakthrough goal for the Seasiders in the 54th minute when she fired one in from the right side after Jill Haar’s shot from straight on was blocked by Chaminade goalie Marissa Minor. Hunter blasted in the rebound before Minor could recover, giving the Seasiders the only goal they would really need. Haar took a penalty shot in the 72nd minute that Minor knocked away but Haar got to the rebound first and drilled it home for the final margin. BYU–Hawaii backup goalie Macy Halladay, who played the entire second half for the Seasiders, saved the only shot the Silverswords took in the match.

With the win, BYU–Hawaii improves to 9-5-1 overall and 6-1 in the PacWest.

BYU Hawaii’s next action will be on Tuesday against Hawaii Pacific in Laie at 1:00 pm HST.
