BYU-Hawaii Head Soccer Coach- Justin Wagar

Coach Wagar is a Nationally Licensed coach entering his 6th year of coaching women's soccer at the collegiate level. 2007 marks the second season of NCAA soccer for Coach Wagar at BYU-Hawaii. His overall coaching record in two years here is 25-10-1 and includes a second place conference finish in the team’s inaugural season in 2006, and a first place finish and Pac West Championship in 2007. Coach Wagar was awarded the Conference coach of the year this past season, as his team went 10-2 in conference play.
Before coming to BYU Hawaii, Wagar coached at Division 1 Utah Valley State College for 3 years where he served as an assistant coach for two seasons, and then stepped in as the interim head coach for the team in 2005 when the previous head coach resigned. That year he helped lead the team to their first ever conference championship game and a second place finish in the United Soccer Conference.
Wagar played his college soccer here at BYU Hawaii for the men's team in 1998-1999. While at BYU Hawaii he helped lead his team at the sweeper position to the most successful college season in Seasider history. He later captained the Utah Olympic Development Select Men's team that qualified for the National final 4 in Tampa Florida in January of 2006, and earned an All American 1st team selection when his UVSC Men's College club team finished 2nd in the Nation for Nirsa in 2005. He began his coaching career in 2002 at Kennewick High School after successfully completing a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served the people of the Denver Colorado North Mission for two years. Wagar has played soccer competitively for over 20 years now from club, premier, Olympic Development, semi- professional, and collegiate levels of competition, and says that he uses much of his coaching philosophy from what he learned in his experience as a player.
Justin said, "I love the sport of soccer. It has become such a big part
of my life. I am thankful to have the opportunity to teach and work with
young
people each and every day,
and to see the excitement that it brings to their lives from their hard work
and committment as they strive to reach their goals. There
is no better job than one
that
you
have the
opportunity
to teach and try to help people to become their very best. I love coaching,
and I look forward to this great opportunity of representing such a fine institution
as BYU-Hawaii. I hope that we can continue to have quality athletes
in the future as we work to build a legacy here of great players and teams."
