Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University Hawaii Women’s
Soccer team announced the second part of their signing class for 2008
with the announcement of its final seven players to National Letters
of Intent. The seven announced today are Whitney LeBlanc, Chanise Raab,
Brenna Rhoades, Kendra Roseberry, Kami Strait, Kacey Williams and
Lacey Wilcox. This group of seven players along with the previous six
announced last week brings the total number of incoming players next
fall to
13 talented
and dedicated student athletes who will represent BYU-Hawaii on the
soccer field next year.
Laie, HI-The Brigham Young University-Hawaii Women’s Soccer
team got stronger today with the signing of six players to National
Letters of Intent. The six, Natalie Cude, Britt Edman, Ashley Kamoe,
Lauran McCullough, Tara McPartland, and Scottie Prince, represent a
group of talented young players from the West Coast.
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
player Jill Haar was honored as the Pacific West Conference Player
of the Year as the Seasiders landed several conference honors this
week. BYU–Hawaii Head Coach Justin Wagar was named the Coach
of the Year by the conference and freshman goalie Becky Ploeger got
the Goalie of the Year award. Freshman Sarah Welty shared the Newcomer
of the Year Award and the Seasiders landed seven players on the All-Conference
Teams for the season.
Laie, HI—BYU Hawaii senior forward Jill Haar was chosen PacWest
Player of the Week again after scoring four times in two wins during
the week of October 22-28 to earn PacWest Player of the Week honors
for the second time in 2007.
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
player Jill Haar has been named to the 2007 Daktronics All-Far West
Region Second Team for her outstanding play for the Seasiders this
season. Haar was one of only two Pacific West Conference players awarded
regional honors with both being named to the second team.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team claimed the Pacific West Conference championship today without
playing a match. The Seasiders won the title when UH-Hilo defeated
Dixie State 1-0 on the Big Island.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team defeated Notre Dame de Namur today, 4-1, in the final Pacific
West Conference match of the season for both teams. The Seasiders,
now 13-6-1 overall and 10-2 in the conference, now await the outcome
of Saturday’s match between Dixie State and UH-Hilo that will
determine the conference champion. If the Vulcans (8-3 in the conference)
can topple the visiting Rebels of Dixie State (9-1-1 in the PacWest),
BYU–Hawaii will win the conference championships. Should UH-Hilo
and Dixie State tie, the Seasiders and Rebels would share the conference
crown. If Dixie State beats the Vulcans, the Rebels will be the PacWest
champs.
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
player Sarah Welty was named the Pacific West Conference Player of
the Week for the week of September 24th for her outstanding play
in leading the Seasiders to three Pacific West Conference road wins
during
the week. She is the second Seasider to win conference Player of
the Week this season.
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
player Sarah Norton was honored today by the College Sports Information
Director’s Association (CoSIDA) by being named to the ESPN
The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team for the west district.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team defeated Grand Canyon today, 2-0, in Pacific West Conference
action. The Seasiders, now 12-6-1 overall and 9-2 in the conference,
got goals
from Natasha Aiono and Hailey McKee early in the match and the defense
made them hold up as they dropped the Antelopes to 4-13-2 overall
and 4-6-1 in the PacWest.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team lost a tough match with Dixie State today, 1-0, to fall behind
the Rebels in the Pacific West Conference standings and into a tie
for second with UH-Hilo. The Seasiders, now 11-6-1 overall and 8-2
in the conference, and the Rebels, 14-3-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the
PacWest, battled each other on even terms throughout the match, but
Dixie State got the only goal in the 71st minute on a long shot from
the left side by Mikala Wilkes.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team moved into first place in the Pacific West Conference today
with a 2-1 victory over UH-Hilo. Senior co-captain Jill Haar scored
both
goals for the Seasiders as they took a 2-0 lead and held on for the
win to improve to 11-5-1 for the season and 8-1 in the PacWest. UH-Hilo
began the day in a tie with the Seasiders atop the conference standings
but fell to 10-7 overall and 7-2 in the conference with the loss.
Laie, HI—Senior Jill Haar and freshman Sarah Welty scored twice
each to lead the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team to a 4-1 victory over Hawaii Pacific in a Pacific West Conference
match today. The Seasiders, now 10-5-1 for the season and 7-1 in
the PacWest, out-shot the Sea Warriors 10-4 and controlled play throughout
the game as they moved into first place in the conference by a single
point.
Laie, HI—In a continuing game of deja vu, the Brigham Young
University Hawaii women’s soccer team dominated Chaminade today
everywhere but on the scoreboard before defeating the Silverswords
2-0 in a Pacific West Conference match marking the third time this
season the Seasiders have defeated Chaminade by the same 2-0 score.
As in the earlier matches, BYU–Hawaii controlled play throughout
the game, out-shooting the Silverswords 16-1, but managed to find
the net only twice in the second half.
Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team lost a conference match for the first time this season today,
falling 1-0 at UH-Hilo. The Seasiders were out-shot 13-3 by the Vulcans
and dropped to 8-5-1 for the season and 5-1 in the PacWest. UH-Hilo
is now 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Kaneohe, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s
soccer team defeated Hawaii Pacific 2-0 today in a Pacific West Conference
match. The Seasiders, now 8-4-1 overall and 5-0 in the PacWest, got
a goal in each half and shut down the Sea Warriors defensively to
secure the win.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team put up quite a battle but went down in defeat to Division I Weber
State today, 1-0. The Seasiders struggled throughout the first half,
getting off only one shot to the Wildcats’ eight and giving up
the only goal of the game. However, BYU–Hawaii dominated play
in the second half, out-shooting the visitors 9-4, but just couldn’t
get the ball into the net.
Honolulu, HI—Just as they did in the first meeting between the
two teams earlier this season, the Brigham Young University Hawaii
women’s soccer team dominated Chaminade today everywhere but
on the scoreboard before defeating the Silverswords 2-0 in a Pacific
West Conference match. The Seasiders controlled play throughout the
game, out-shooting the Silverswords 25-0, but managed to find the
net only twice in the second half.
San Francisco, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s
soccer team completed their grueling road trip today by defeating
San Francisco State 1-0 in non-conference action. The Seasiders, now
6-3-1
for the season, played five matches in nine days on the mainland
and came away with a 4-1 mark on the trip.
Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
player Jill Haar was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the
Week for the week of September 17th for her stellar play in the Seasiders’ 6-1
win over Northwood (TX). Haar scored all three goals in the second
half to help BYU–Hawaii break open a game that was tied 1-1
at the half.
Seaside, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s
soccer team succumbed to the rigors of the road today and lost 3-2
to Cal State-Monterey Bay in non-conference action. The Seasiders,
aptly named for playing the match in Seaside, lost despite out-shooting
the Otters 21-12 to fall to 5-3-1 for the season. It was the first
loss in the last six matches for BYU–Hawaii.
Belmont, CA—Freshman Natasha Aiono scored twice today to lead
the Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer team to a
2-1 Pacific West Conference victory over Notre Dame de Namur. The Seasiders,
now 5-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the PacWest, won for the fifth time in
a row since losing to highly ranked UC San Diego and, with three tough
conference road wins, appear to be in the driver’s seat for
the conference crown.
St. George, UT—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s
soccer team won their fourth straight match today with a 4-3 Pacific
West Conference win over Dixie State on the road. The Seasiders,
now 4-2-1 for the season and 2-0 in the PacWest, scored all four goals
in the first half and held on to defeat the Rebels despite getting
out shot 16-11 for the game.
Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s
soccer team opened Pacific West Conference play today with a 3-0
shutout of
Grand Canyon on the road. The Seasiders, now 3-2-1 for the season
and 1-0 in the PacWest, scored all three goals in the second half to
down
the Antelopes despite being out shot 20-9.
Laie, HI—Senior captain Jill Haar scored three goals to lead
a five-goal second-half explosion that propelled the Brigham Young
University Hawaii women’s soccer team to a 6-1 win over Northwood
(TX) today at the BYU–Hawaii soccer field. Tied 1-1 at the
half, the Seasiders peppered Northwood with 12 shots after the break,
netting
five of them, to break the game open and improve to 2-2-1 for the
season.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team picked up its first win of the season today as the Seasiders
defeated Chaminade 2-0 in a game that was not as close as the final
score. The
Seasiders dominated play throughout the game, out-shooting the Silverswords
29-0, but managed to find the net only once in each half.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team battled the nation’s third-ranked team toe-to-toe today
before losing a tough 1-0 decision to UC San Diego. The Seasiders,
in just their second year of women’s soccer, gave the powerhouse
Tritons all they could handle, especially in the second half when
the Seasiders outshot the visitors 4-2 and continually put pressure
on
the UC San Diego defense. However, the Tritons held on for the win
to improve to 3-0 for the season while the Seasiders fell to 0-2-1
for the year.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s soccer
team gave a valiant effort, but a first half red card proved too
much to overcome as Concordia (CA) came from behind to pull of a 2-1
upset
victory today over the Seasiders. BYU Hawaii took a 1-0 lead in the
38th minute on a beautiful goal by senior Captain Jill Haar, who
was assisted on the play by defender Kristina Nibley.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii Women’s Soccer
team opened the season today with a 3-3 tie against Central Washington.
BYU–Hawaii, 0-0-1 for the season, led at halftime 2-1 but the
Wildcats came back with two second half goals to take the lead before
the Seasiders’ Jill Haar tied the game in the 86th minute to
force overtime. The Seasiders and Wildcats, now 1-0-1 for the season,
played two overtime periods but neither team came up with a score
after regulation play.
Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii Women’s
Soccer team was tabbed as the preseason favorite to claim the Pacific West
Conference title this season in a poll of conference coaches released today.
The Seasiders, despite being in just the second year of the program, received
two first-place votes from the seven coaches and narrowly edged out conference
newcomer Dixie State in the voting. Additionally, BYU–Hawaii’s
senior forward Jill Haar was voted the preseason Player of the Year
by the coaches.
