| October 12, 2007 Seasiders Fall Short
Hilo, HI–The Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s volleyball team came within a point of knocking off conference leader UH-Hilo tonight in an important Pacific West Conference match but the win slipped through their grasp as they lost 30-24, 26-30, 30-17, 30-32, 10-15. The win gives the Vulcans a three-game lead over the Seasiders in the conference standings. BYU–Hawaii led game four 29-24 and appeared ready to close the gap in the PacWest, but the Vulcans roared back with five straight points to tie the game at 29-29. The Seasiders took the next point on a Tanza Buroker kill to have another shot at closing out the match but, once again, UH-Hilo battled back with three more points to send the match to a fifth game. Game five was tied at 7-7 before the Vulcans took control down the stretch to pull out the win. Senior outside hitter Noelle Filimoeatu pounded a match-high 23 kills for the Seasiders to lead all players and also contributed eight assists, eight digs, two aces, and three blocks. Agnes Tuilevuka hammered 18 kills, got a team-high 15 digs, and came up with three blocks and three aces. Buroker put up seven blocks and notched five kills while Faylynn Merrick chipped in with six kills and five blocks. Nyoka Peniata served five aces and had eight digs while LeeAnn Mapu got 47 assists and four blocks. Fabieane Seben had 19 kill for UH-Hilo while Josimara Pinheiro had 15, Lauren Bayer had 12, and Hillary Hurley had ten. Laura Rodriguez made 35 digs and setter Desiree Agader put up 61 assists in the win. BYU–Hawaii will face the Vulcans again tomorrow night in a non-conference match in Hilo at 7:15 pm.
