April 5, 2008 Seasiders Fall to League Leader
Kaneohe, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii softball team lost both ends of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader today to conference leader Hawaii Pacific. The Seasiders dropped the first game 11-3 and the second 11-2. The Seasiders, who were designated as the home team by the conference for today’s games, took an early 3-2 lead in the first game, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning and a solo run in the second. Melissa Lehano led off the first with a walk for the Seasiders and then stole her 11th base of the season before Leslie Fester doubled to drive her home. Fester then scored on a pair of wild pitches. After the Sea Warriors answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second, Kim Artiaga singled in the bottom of the inning and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Lehano. However, the Seasiders didn’t score again and couldn’t hold the lead. Game two was shortened to five innings by the eight-run rule. The Seasiders scored their two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a bases-loaded walk to Katresha Veazie and an RBI single by Brooke Perriton. Fester rapped out three hits, scored twice and had an RBI for the Seasiders in the two games. BYU–Hawaii now stands at 8-29 for the season and 5-15 in the PacWest while Hawaii Pacific improved to 30-5 overall and 15-1 in the conference. The Seasiders will face UH-Hilo on April 11th in Laie in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm HST.
