April 4, 2008 Seasiders Lose Twice
Kaneohe, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii softball team dropped a pair of Pacific West Conference games today to conference leader Hawaii Pacific but put a scare into the Sea Warriors in the first game. Hawaii Pacific had to rally for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 4-3 win in the opener. The Sea Warriors won the second game 8-0. The Seasiders trailed 1-0 early in game one but scored twice in the top of the third on an RBI double by leading hitter Melissa Lehano and a single by pitcher Crystal De La Cruz that sent Lehano home. Hawaii Pacific tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a home run but the Seasiders got a solo home run of their own by Bettye Doering, her fourth of the year, in the top of the sixth, and took a 3-2 lead into the last half of the seventh inning. However, with one out the Sea Warriors put together three consecutive singles to tie the game. After an attempted squeeze play that resulted in the second out being made at the plate, a BYU–Hawaii error allowed the winning run to score to end the game. Lehano and Doering each collected two of BYU–Hawaii’s five hits in the game. Hawaii Pacific’s Sherise Musquiz tossed a five-inning one-hitter at the Seasiders in game two. BYU–Hawaii pitcher Katresha Veazie got the only hit, a second-inning single, for BYU–Hawaii in the game. BYU–Hawaii now stands at 8-27 for the season and 5-13 in the PacWest while Hawaii Pacific improved to 28-5 overall and 13-1 in the conference. The Seasiders will face Hawaii Pacific again tomorrow in a conference
doubleheader in Kaneohe, Hawaii beginning at noon HST.
