April 15, 2008 Seasiders Finish Season
Waipio, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii softball team ended the season today with a pair of non-conference losses to Chaminade at Central Oahu Regional Park. The Seasiders fell short in the first game 8-2 and dropped the nightcap 4-2 to the Silverswords. BYU–Hawaii trailed 1-0 in the first game until Kahealani Alohikea-Betham blasted her fifth home run of the season in the top of the second inning to tie the game. However, Chaminade came back in the bottom of the third with six runs to put the game out of reach. The Seasiders scored again in the top of the seventh on a double by Margaret Gnadt but it was not enough. The Seasiders scored in the top of the first inning in game two to take a brief, 1-0 lead when Melissa Lehano led off the game with a double and came around to score on a triple by Crystal De La Cruz. Chaminade took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the second but Bettye Anne Doering smacked her fifth home run of the year in the top of the fourth to narrow the margin to one run. The Silverswords answered with a Brandi Sasaki homer in the bottom of the fifth to close out the scoring for the game. BYU–Hawaii finished the season with a 9-34 record overall and a 6-18 record in the Pacific West Conference. Chaminade finished the season at 11-30 overall and 4-16 in the conference to trail the Seasiders.
