Seasiders Drop a Pair

Katresha Veazie gave up just one earned run in today's second game

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii softball team lost both ends of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader today on a muddy field to UH-Hilo. The Seasiders dropped the first game, which was interrupted twice by rain, 7-3, and the second game 3-1.

The Seasiders trailed 2-0 in game one before scoring a single run in the bottom of the second on a pair of wild pitches following an error, a sacrifice, and a walk. After the Vulcans scored three times in the top of the third, the Seasiders scored another run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Crystal De La Cruz that followed a single and stolen base by Melissa Lehano. UH-Hilo went ahead 7-2 in the fifth inning and the Seasiders scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Margaret Gnadt.

BYU–Hawaii’s Katresha Veazie pitched a strong game in the second contest but was victimized by a pair of unearned runs. The Seasiders fell behind 3-0 before scoring their only run of the game in the sixth inning on a single by Kim Artiaga.

BYU–Hawaii now stands at 8-31 for the season and 5-17 in the PacWest while UH-Hilo even its record at 8-8 overall and 7-7 in the conference.

The Seasiders will face UH-Hilo again tomorrow in a split doubleheader at Central Oahu Regional Park. The first game will begin at 2:00 pm HST and the second will start at 7:00 pm HST and be broadcast on OC16.
