Seasiders Lose Twice

Melissa Lehano (shown in last year's action) drove in a run today and is leading the Seasiders in hits through four games

Irvine, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii women's softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader today to Concordia (CA). The Seasiders lost the first game 7-1 before dropping the second game 13-5 in six innings. BYU–Hawaii fell to 0-4 on the season with the losses.

BYU–Hawaii fell victim to a big inning in the first game as Concordia scored six times in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead. The Lady Eagles banged out eight of their 12 hits in the inning and benefited from a Seasider error to take control of the game. The Seasiders scored their lone run in the seventh inning on an RBI groundout by Katresha Veazie that scored Kimberly Artiaga, who had singled to start the inning. Veazie took the loss, her second of the season, by going the distance on the mound for the Seasiders.

Veazie also went the distance in the second game as the Lady Eagles, now 6-2 for the season, scored in all six innings of the shortened contest to end the game on the eight-run rule. Concordia banged out 14 hits and took advantage of six walks, four BYU–Hawaii errors, and a hit batter to power to the win. The Seasiders picked up a lone run in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Melissa Lehano and tallied four more times in the fifth on a two-RBI double by Bettye Doering and a two-run home run by Kahealani Alohikea-Betham.

Artiaga led the Seasiders in the twin bill with three hits while Lehano, Leslie Fester, Doering, and Alohikea-Betham each smacked a pair of hits on the day.

The Seasiders will face Cal State-Dominguez Hills on Monday in a non-conference doubleheader in Carson, California at 11:00 am PST.
