Seasiders Surrender Sixth Straight

Silver City, NM- Silver City, NM- The Brigham Young University-Hawaii women's softball team dropped another doubleheader to Western New Mexico today by scores of 4-0 and 11-3. With the wins Western New Mexico clinched first place in the PacWest Conference.

In the first game the Seasiders managed five hits off of Mustangs' pitcher Andrea Slaugh, who held them hitless yesterday, but were unable to produce any runs. Tiffany Mondhink had two hits, including a two-run double, to lead the Mustangs offensively.

The Seasiders got off to a good start in the second game. Maggie Reynolds hit a two-out single to start a short rally. Lyza Halas tripled to drive in Reynolds and then scored on Heather Murray's single. The Seasiders' lead only lasted for half an inning as the Mustangs answered back with three runs of their own. Western New Mexico, lead by Jessica Garcia's 3 for 3, 3 RBI performance, added seven more runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 10-2 lead.

The Seasiders scored in the top of the fifth to delay being defeated by the eight-run rule. However, the Mustangs scored again in the bottom of the sixth and the game was called.

Murray and Juanita Vega led the Seasiders with two hits each on the day.

The Seasiders' record falls to 9-24, 2-14 while the conference champion Mustangs improve to 27-7-1, 18-2. The Seasiders head to Los Angeles to take on Occidental on Thursday.
