Seasiders Defeat Sonoma State

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s tennis team defeated Sonoma State today 7-2 to improve to 6-1 for the season. The Seasiders took two of the three doubles matches before winning five of the six singles matches for the win.

In today’s doubles action, Marvin So’onalole and Rong Ma breezed to an 8-1 win at the top doubles position while Agnel Gladwin Peter and Ben Stevenson took an 8-5 win at number three doubles to give the Seasiders the lead heading into singles play.

In singles action, So’onalole secured the first point for the Seasiders with a 6-1, 6-3 win at number fives singles. Peter picked up a win at the fourth slot with a 6-4, 6-1 victory while Manu Bajpai was winning 6-3, 6-2 at the third position. Junichi Shimoda claimed a straight set, 6-3, 6-4 win at number six singles while Ma overcame a one-set deficit to win at number one singles in a super tie-breaker 4-6, 6-0, 1-0(10).

The Seasiders will take to the road next to face West Alabama in Mobile, Alabama on March 31st.
