Seasiders Lose to DIII Power

Rong Ma follows through after a serve during today's match

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s tennis team suffered their first defeat of the season today, 5-1, at the hands of NCAA III fourth-ranked Emory (GA). The Seasiders, now 2-1 for the season, claimed a win at the top doubles slot and were leading in two of the unfinished singles matches when play was halted.

Rong Ma and Marvin So’onalole scored an 8-6 win over the second-ranked DIII duo in the nation at the number one doubles position but the Seasiders dropped the second and third doubles matches to fall behind 2-1 headed into singles play. Ma and So’onalole performed well in singles play as well as both were leading their respective matches in the third set at number one and number four singles when play stopped.

The Seasiders are scheduled to face Division I Arkansas on Monday at 2:00 pm HST in Laie.
