Seasiders Drop Vulcans Again

Tomas Hladil (shown in earlier action) was a double winner today

Hilo, HI-The Brigham Young University Hawaii men's tennis team defeated UH-Hilo for the second time today, 5-1, to improve to 3-0 for the season. The Seasiders took two of the three doubles matches and then won at numbers two through four in singles play to complete the two-match sweep of the Vulcans.

Tomas Hladil led the way for the Seasiders with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Fuyuki Samejima at the number two singles spot. Earlier Hladil teamed with Jakub Huza for an 8-1 win at the top doubles position. Marvin So'onalole defeated Kevin Tamura at number three singles, 6-3, 6-3 and was also a double winner as he teamed with Chris Rice for a tough, 9-8(3) victory at the third doubles slot. Junyoung Kim rounded out the singles wins with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Tomas Mikulasek at number four singles.

In other singles action, Huza was tied at one set apiece with Daniel Pollock at number one singles when play was halted due to the Seasiders hitting the five point mark and Junichi Shimoda of BYU-Hawaii was also deadlocked at a set apiece with the Vulcans' Mitchel Gelina at number six singles at the stoppage. Rice had won the first set 6-1 over Lars Melskens at number five singles but was trailing 6-5 in the second set when the match ended.

At number two doubles the Vulcans duo of Melskens and Mikulasek defeated Kim and Shimoda 8-6 for UH-Hilo's only point in the two matches.
