Seasiders Shutout Silverswords

Shawn Blymiller (shown in earlier action) notched his second goal of the season in tonight's win

Maui, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Chaminade 4-0 tonight in the opening match of the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup. The Seasiders tallied all their goals in the second half against the Silverswords to improve to 3-1 for the season.

Goal keeper Doug Hansen was required to make just one save for the Seasiders to record his second straight shutout in goal and freshman Trent Read scored an unassisted goal in the 54th minute to stake the Seasiders to a 1-0 lead early in the second half. The Seasiders added goals by Shawn Blymiller in the 63rd minute and Sam Akinaka in the 73rd minute, both assisted by Brian Noguera, before Noguera scored the final goal himself in the 89th minute unassisted.

The Seasiders really dominated play in the second half, out-shooting the Silverswords 14-0 in the period en route to a 19-3 advantage for the game.

BYU–Hawaii will face UH-Hilo tomorrow at 7:00 pm HST in Maui in the championship game of the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup.
