Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team picked up its third win in a row today, defeating UH-Hilo 4-1 in Pacific West Conference action to break the second-place tie the two teams shared in the conference to start the day. The Seasiders, now 9-8 for the season and 5-3 in the PacWest, dropped the Vulcans to 7-10 overall and 4-4 in the conference despite being out-shot by the visitors 16-12.

UH-Hilo opened the scoring, getting an unassisted goal from Dustin Daley in the 13th minute. The Seasiders tied the game in the 30th minute when Adam Maciejewski took a pass from Trenton Read and dribbled a soft shot past Vulcan goalie Marc Fournier into the right corner of the net. Justin Hong put BYU–Hawaii ahead to stay with an arcing shot from the right of the goal that cleared Fournier’s head and found the back left corner of the net in the 33rd minute. Brian Noguera set up Hong’s goal with a nice feed to give the Seasiders a 2-1 halftime advantage.

Maciejewski booted home his second goal of the day during the 58th minute after a crossing pass from the left side from Ben Stevens found him wide open on the right side. Sam Akinaka also picked up an assist on the play. Noguera tallied the final goal for the Seasiders on a penalty kick in the 66th minute when he beat Vulcan backup goalie Dane Kaylor, who played the whole second half, with a low shot to the left.

BYU–Hawaii will face first-place Grand Canyon on Wednesday at 3:30 pm HST in Laie in another PacWest matchup.
