Men Top HPU

Shawn Blymiller appears to be floating in the air as he makes a kick during today's win over HPU

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team scored a goal just over a minute into the game and kept the pressure on throughout the contest in defeating Hawaii Pacific 4-0 in Pacific West Conference action today. The Seasiders, now 8-8 for the season and 4-3 in the PacWest, dominated the Sea Warriors just nineteen days after being beaten by them in Kaneohe by the same 4-1 score. BYU–Hawaii out-shot Hawaii Pacific 18-5 for the game.

Brian Noguera surprised the Sea Warriors with an unassisted goal from close range in the second minute of play. Hawaii Pacific answered that goal with a penalty-kick goal by Thimo Langner during the 15th minute. The Seasiders wasted no time in taking the lead for good, however, as Trenton Read scored off a nice feed from Noguera less than two minutes later. The Seasiders led 2-1 at the half but stretched the lead quickly in the second half when Shawn Blymiller scored from the right side with an assist from Justin Hong in the 48th minute. Sam Akinaka completed the scoring when he poked in a rebound in the 90th minute.

BYU–Hawaii will face UH-Hilo on Thursday at 1:00 pm HST in Laie in another PacWest matchup.
