Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Chaminade today, 3-0, in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 7-8 for the season and 3-3 in the PacWest, totally dominated the game, out-shooting the Silverswords 26-0 to claim their third victory over Chaminade this season.

Michael Akinaka opened the scoring for BYU–Hawaii, scoring in the ninth minute after a long kick by Seasider goalie Doug Hansen and a further assist from Shawn Blymiller. Blymiller scored the second goal in the 57th minute with an assist from Collin Watch when his looping kick from the right side deflected off the outstretched fingertips of Silversword goalie Darren Smith and sneaked in just under the crossbar. Brian Noguera tallied the final goal for the Seasiders in the 71st minute.

Smith made 12 saves for Chaminade, several of them spectacular, but received little help from an offense that generated just one corner kick and no shots. The Seasider defenders kept the ball out of the BYU–Hawaii end for most of the match.

BYU–Hawaii will face Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday at 3:30 pm HST in Laie in another PacWest matchup.
