Seasiders Gain Experience Against Top Team

Honolulu, HI- Gamba Osaka Of Japan’s J.League took the title at the first annual Pan-Pacific Championship after beating the Houston Dymano 6-1 Saturday night and the L.A. Galaxy 1-0 in the tournament opener on Wednesday. Gamba Osaka played the Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team on the 15th as a tune-up for these matches. Gamba placed a lopsided scoring line on the Seasiders also.

Four Sign with Seasiders

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii Men’s Soccer team added four impressive players today by signing them to National Letters of Intent. They are Alejandro Inostroza of Chile, Zackery Kampf of Gilbert, Arizona, Corey Ackerman of Saratoga Springs, Utah, and Bryce Whiting of The Woodlands, Texas.

Soccer to Play Japanese Professional Team

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team will be playing a training match against the preeminent professional team from Japan’s J.League, Gamba Osaka. Gamba Osaka will be in the islands competing in the newly organized Pan-Pacific Championship to take place in Honolulu on February 20th and 23rd.

Five Seasiders Honored

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer player Brian Noguera was named one of two Co-Newcomers of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team by the Pacific West Conference today. Noguera, a senior from Provo, Utah was named earlier to the 2007 Daktronics All-Far West Region Second Team. Four other Seasiders were given All-Conference honors by the PacWest, with Shawn Blymiller and Adam Maciejewski being placed on the All-Conference Second Team and Michael Akinaka and Collin Walch garnering Honorable Mention honors.

Noguera Player of the Week

Laie, HI- Brigham Young University Hawaii senior midfielder Brian Noguera from Provo, Utah registered six points over two games to claim PacWest Player of the Week honors for the second time this year. He scored two goals and had two assists this past week in two wins against local Hawaii opponents.

Noguera All-Region

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer player Brian Noguera has been named to the 2007 Daktronics All-Far West Region Second Team as a reward for his play this season. Noguera led the Seasiders to a 9-10 record for the season and a 5-5 mark in the Pacific West Conference. He was one of three PacWest players recognized by the region, all three on the second team.

Seasiders Drop Season Finale

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost a double overtime heartbreaker, 2-1, to Norte Dame de Namur today in Pacific West Conference action on the BYU–Hawaii soccer field. The visiting Argonauts won the game in the final minutes of the second sudden-death overtime period on a goal that was deflected by Seasider goalie Doug Hansen but struck the right post and caromed into the net.

Seasiders Fall to Defending Champs

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost to conference leader Grand Canyon, 2-0, today in Pacific West Conference action on the BYU–Hawaii soccer field. The Seasiders, now 9-9 for the season and 5-4 in the PacWest put up a good fight against the conference defending champions but came up just short as Grand Canyon improved to 11-4-4 for the season and 8-0-1 in the conference.

Seasiders Move into Second Place

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team picked up its third win in a row today, defeating UH-Hilo 4-1 in Pacific West Conference action to break the second-place tie the two teams shared in the conference to start the day. The Seasiders, now 9-8 for the season and 5-3 in the PacWest, dropped the Vulcans to 7-10 overall and 4-4 in the conference despite being out-shot by the visitors 16-12.

Men Top HPU

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team scored a goal just over a minute into the game and kept the pressure on throughout the contest in defeating Hawaii Pacific 4-0 in Pacific West Conference action today. The Seasiders, now 8-8 for the season and 4-3 in the PacWest, dominated the Sea Warriors just nineteen days after being beaten by them in Kaneohe by the same 4-1 score. BYU–Hawaii out-shot Hawaii Pacific 18-5 for the game.

Seasiders Topple Silverswords

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Chaminade today, 3-0, in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, now 7-8 for the season and 3-3 in the PacWest, totally dominated the game, out-shooting the Silverswords 26-0 to claim their third victory over Chaminade this season.

Seasiders Come Up Short in Hilo

Hilo, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost to UH-Hilo tonight 2-1 to fall to 6-8 for the season and 2-3 in the Pacific West Conference. The Seasiders were out-shot by the Vulcans 10-3 for the game and 6-1 in the first half when UH-Hilo took a 1-0 lead.

Seasiders Fall to HPU

Kaneohe, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost to Hawaii Pacific today by a final score of 4-1 to fall to 6-7 for the season and 2-2 in the Pacific West Conference. Due to computer problems at the match, no further details are available at this time.

Seasiders Drop Swords

Honolulu, HI—For the second time this season Brigham Young University Hawaii freshman Trenton Read scored a game-winning goal in overtime to give the Seasider men’s soccer team a win. Today Read’s victim was Chaminade as the Seasiders rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Silverswords 2-1 in Pacific West Conference action.

Noguera Honored

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer player Brian Noguera has been named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week for the week of September 3-9. Noguera, a senior midfielder from Provo, Utah, scored four goals in and made four assists over four games during that week and led the Seasiders to a 3-1 record for the week.

Seasiders Fall to Lumberjacks

Arcata, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team brought their marathon road trip to an end today with a 2-0 loss at Humboldt State. The Seasiders, playing their sixth road match in nine days and playing for the third day in a row, nevertheless put up a battle before finally succumbing to the pressure from the Lumberjacks late in the second half.

Road-Weary Seasiders Fall to Otters

Seaside, CA—The road-weary Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team, playing their fifth road match in eight days, dropped a 5-1 non-conference decision to Cal State-Monterey Bay today. The Seasiders were out-shot by the Otters 28-13 as they fell back to the .500 mark at 5-5 for the season.

Seasiders Stop Argos

Belmont, CA—Lance Ford scored in the 73rd minute off a free kick pass from Adam Maciejewski to give the Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Notre Dame de Namur today in Pacific West Conference action. The Seasiders, trailing 1-0 at halftime rallied for their first conference win of the season to improve to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Seasider Comeback Falls Short

Santa Cruz, CA—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost to UC Santa Cruz, 2-1, today in the third match of a grueling, six-game road trip. The Seasiders fell behind 2-0 at the half and, despite playing a strong second half, fell short at the end to fall to 4-4 for the season.

Seasiders Fall to GCU

Phoenix, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost to Grand Canyon, 3-0, today in the Pacific West Conference season opener for both teams. The Seasiders failed to get a shot on goal in the first half while giving up all three Grand Canyon goals as they fell to 4-3 for the season and 0-1 in the PacWest.

Seasiders Lose on the Road

Prescott, AZ—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team lost to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical today for the second time this season to fall to 4-2 for the season. The Seasiders dominated play at times but failed to get the ball in the net as they fell on the road, 2-0.

Seasiders Win Cup in OT

Maui, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated UH-Hilo 4-3 tonight in double overtime to claim the title at the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup. Freshman Trent Read netted the game winner for the Seasiders, who improved to 4-1 for the season with the win.

Seasiders Shutout Silverswords

Maui, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team defeated Chaminade 4-0 tonight in the opening match of the Hawaii Collegiate Challenge Cup. The Seasiders tallied all their goals in the second half against the Silverswords to improve to 3-1 for the season.

Seasiders Get Second Win

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team won their second overtime match of the season today on a nifty goal by Brian Noguera in the 102nd minute in the second overtime period. Noguera dribbled between three defenders before launching the shot that found the back left corner of the goal to end the marathon game and boost the Seasiders to 2-1 for the season.

Seasiders Fall

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team dropped a 4-2 match to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical today to fall to 1-1 for the season. The score was tied 1-1 at halftime but the visiting Eagles tallied three times in the second half while holding the Seasiders to just a single goal despite 11 shots on goal in the half.

Seasiders Win in OT

Laie, HI—Freshman Adam Maciejewski knocked in a goal seven minutes into the first overtime to propel the Brigham Young University Hawaii men’s soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Chico State today in the season opener for the Seasiders. Senior Michael Akinaka passed the ball to Brian Noguera who finessed the ball to a wide open Maciejewski on the right of the goal. Maciejewski then booted the game winner across the goal mouth into the left corner to send the Seasider fans home happy.

BYUH Picked Fourth

Laie, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men’s soccer team has been picked by the conference coaches to finish in the middle of the pack in the preseason poll released by the conference. The Seasiders, 7-6-1 last season and 5-4-1 in the conference, were projected to finish fourth in the six-team conference.
