Olympia, WA—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men’s golf team shot a combined 302 today in the opening round of the St. Martin’s Invitational. The Seasiders’ aggregate total put them in tenth place in the 13-team field, just ahead of island rival Hawaii Pacific.

Sophomore Brett Puterbaugh carded a two-over 73 to lead the Seasiders and is tied for 25th place individually in the tournament. Freshman Brandon Van Dyke came in at three over par with a 74 and is tied for 30th place overall. Other Seasiders figuring in the team score were Kyle Kunioka at 77, tied for 48th place, and Abel Soares with a 78, good for a tie for 54th place. Neal Manutai completed his round with an 89 for 72nd place for the Seasiders.

Sonoma State leads the tournament with a 279 score and UH-Hilo’s Daniel Kitayama leads the individual scoring with a six-under 65.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
