April 21, 2008 Seasiders in Fifth Place
Turtle Bay, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men’s golf team finished the day in fifth place after the first round of the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament today at Turtle Bay’s Palmer Course. The Seasiders shot a team total of 330 on the par 72 course to trail fourth-place Dixie State by seven strokes entering tomorrow’s second round. BYU-Hawaii’s Brandon Van Dyke turned in the day’s best round for the Seasiders with a 79 to tie for 13th place overall. Joshua Coon carded an 81 to tie for 18th place and Brett Puterbaugh was a stroke back of him with an 82 for a tie for 20th. Kyle Kunioka is in 32nd place with an 88 and Neal Manutai sits in 33rd place with a 90. The Seasiders’ Derek Hall, competing as an individual in the tournament due to a recent leg injury, turned in a 78 today. Grand Canyon leads the team scoring in the tournament with a 304 and the Antelopes’ Bentley Nakasawa is tied for the individual lead with Notre Dame de Namur’s Mike Prescott and UH-Hilo’s Logan Goulding at two-over 74. The tournament will continue through Wednesday on the Palmer Course. |
