Seasiders Complete Hilo Tournament

Waikoloa, HI—The Brigham Young University-Hawaii men’s golf team finished 15th in the 16-team field at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate Golf Tournament played at the Mauna Lani Golf Resort on the Big Island. The Seasiders shot a final-round 338 today to move past Hawaii Pacific in the standings after starting the day at the back of the pack. BYU–Hawaii finished the tournament at 330-337-338—1005 to edge the Sea Warriors by eight strokes.

Brandon Van Dyke shot an 80 today on the par 72 course to finish the tournament at 80-81-80—241 to tie for 56th place individually. Abel Soares shot 81-90-81—252 to claim 69th place while Joshua Coon carded rounds of 85-86-86—257 to tie for 74th place. Kyle Kunioka finished at 84-85-91—260 in 77th place and Brett Puterbaugh completed the tournament at 95-85-95—275 for 80th place.

Sonoma State won the team title with a three-day total of 865 and Kyle Hopkins of Sonoma State won a playoff for medalist honors after finishing in a three-way tie at 214, two under par.
