This scholarship is a rigorous national and international competition and the selection process for the recipients is intense. As such, pay careful attention to all criteria. It will not be enough to just do well at the university in regards to high GPA and the odd club activity etc. The candidate needs to be of the highest caliber and be able to demonstrate extended involvement in leadership and public service. A second area of focus would be involvement in the arts and humanities. Given the nature of the candidates, it is suggested that these two areas might need to be beyond the normal on-campus experience. Documentation to back up involvement in these areas is vital.

Submitting an application does not automatically mean that a candidate will be submitted to the national board, even if the submission is top of the applications here at BYUH, if the full range of criteria are not met to the highest level.

As the current advisor for this scholarship I encourage all candidates to carefully address the criteria and to base their decisions for applying around these requirements.
