Federal PLUS Loans
The Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is a loan that
a parent may obtain on behalf of a dependent undergraduate student.
Eligibility
To be eligible, the student must be enrolled at least half-time
(6 hours per semester/3 hours per term) during the entire period of
your loan. These hours cannot include audit hours, noncredit courses,
challenge credit, or Independent Study classes. The parent's credit
history must be checked by the lender. Loan eligibility must be determined
and the loan certified before your last day of eligible enrollment.
Payments and Limits
Loan repayment by the parent begins 60 days after the final disbursement
of the loan. Your parent may obtain a PLUS in addition to other student
loans you may receive. Total financial aid cannot exceed the cost of
education. Checks made co-payable to both the parent and the school
will be mailed to the school, where eligibility will be confirmed and
the checks forwarded to the parent.
To Apply
Complete the Parent PLUS Loan application Form (11k PDF) and
submit it to the BYU-Hawaii Financial Aid department.
