Faculty Resources

Service Learning aims to build knowledge, character, and civic skills in young people by combining service to the community with academic learning. By directly linking service to the academic curriculum, Service Learning creates a place for service that is integrated into the University's core mission: education. We encourage all faculty to develop a Service Learning program for their current courses by following these 3 steps:

1. Look around you in your community. Find a need that students in your class can carry out.

2. Identify the course and service outcomes that you want your students to learn.

3. Ask yourself the following questions:

    * Who or what could the students work with?

    * What product or performance could students create?

    * What service could students provide to this group using this product/performance?
