Welcome to The Bridge

CONNECTING CAMPUS WITH COMMUNITIES

Welcome to The Bridge , BYU- Hawaii's Service Learning office. The Bridge is designed to cater to both faculty and students in order to initiate and sustain Service Learning on the BYU- Hawaii campus and within the local Windward and North Shore communities. We strive to create valuable community partners with whom we connect our faculty, thus connecting campus and community while enhancing student learning.

Service Learning is the practical application of course materials that meets a required need of the community. By incorporating service into the academic curriculum, students build on classroom learning by applying skills to real situations in the community. They then return to the classroom with "hands-on" experience in the field and are able to effectively contribute to classroom discussion and learning. The difference between community service and Service Learning is the direct link that Service Learning makes back to the students, curriculum and instruction.
