Special Needs Grievance Policies & Procedures

Faculty members and individual campus administrative are responsible to make Reasonable Accommodations for students with disabilities in order to remove barriers to the accessibility programs and activities. While it is anticipated that most accommodation requests will be informally resolved at the lowest level of decision making feasible, occasionally the effort of accommodation may be unsatisfactory to the student. In such cases the student may initiate a grievance by submitting a written request to the Director of Human Resources.

  Procedures for Special Needs Grievance:

  • Submitting a written request for a specific accommodation together with appropriate medical or other documentation to the Director of Human Resources

  • The Director of Human Resources will convene a meeting among the affected individuals in an attempt to reach a consensus. Those included would be the following:
    1. The student
    2. A representative of the faculty member or administrative unit
    3. The director or representative of Services for Students with Special Needs
    4. A representative of planning (Physical Facilities), if involved

  • If no agreement is reached, the dean of students will appoint a three-member review panel. This panel will submit a recommendation to the vice president of Student Life who will make the final determination. The panel consist of the following:
    1. A faculty member
    2. An administrative of staff person
