Academic Grade Probation Appeal

for students who have accumulated more than 100 credits completed

Often the Education Support Council (ESC) has been in the awkward and tragic position of upholding the suspension of a student who lacks only a semester or a few credits to graduate. As such these students are often very near completion of their degree yet they are suspended with no right of appeal.

The purpose of this policy is to provide an appeal process that is comprehensive and takes into account a variety of factors and provides the possibility of graduating such students under close scrutiny and supervision.

Process/Procedure:

Upon the suspension of such a student they may appeal to the ESC to review their situation. The student would have to provide the following documents in addition to their transcript:

  1. Their Major Graduation Plan (MAP) with feedback from the Academic Advisor
  2. A letter from the Chair of the Department supporting the continuation of the student in the academic program
  3. A personal letter from the student explaining the factors involved in the poor academic performance and a detailed plan that demonstrates improvement and graduation
  4. A letter from a Counselor of the Student Counseling Center detailing the resources and support to be provided to the student and which counselor will be assigned to work with the student
  5.
