With a new school year comes a new theme for the Curriculum Library. We have chosen this year to help teachers infuse in their students a love of reading with our theme “Literature Across the Curriculum.” Reading can be a challenging subject for many students. If young people do not master the ability to read early, they will struggle in virtually every other subject area for years to come. By incorporating literature into lesson plans across the curriculum, students will be more successful in their academic endeavors. They will be more confident and can develop a passion for the written word.

With Dr. Seuss’ characters as our icons we have decorated the Curriculum Library and are ready to assist you. We have ideas to help you create lesson plans that include elements of reading and language arts. In addition we have put together a Dr. Seuss pathfinder which lists the best books and resources to make learning fun in your classroom. We also have an abundance of books, magazines, and manipulatives in a variety of subjects that will help you teach literature across the curriculum. Stop by the Curriculum Library and see if we can’t help you find an exciting way to teach reading to your students.

Looking for an Activity to Go With the
Book Your Class is Reading?

Look no further! The Literature Index is here! The Education Curriculum Library contains a plethora of literature resources, many of which are to be used with specific children’s books. The literature index is your guide to these resources. By using the index, you will find a multitude of books and magazines which contain ideas for projects, reproducible handouts, and activities to use with a particular piece of literature your class may be reading. You can search the index by author, title, source, subject, or grade level.
The staff at the curriculum library has been working hard for 8 months compiling the information found in this index and it is now available in bound form to use at the library. In addition the literature index will soon be available on the Internet. Come by and check it out!

Musical Classroom

The Curriculum Library has recently purchased about a dozen musical CD’s that can be used in your classroom. These compact discs contain children's songs such as “I Love Mud,” “There’s A Hole at the Bottom of the Sea,” “Days of the Week,” and much more. These CD’s can be checked out by student teachers and will be available starting Fall Semester. Playing music for your class will create a wonderful atmosphere your students will enjoy.
