Come with us to Mathmagicland

A new semester has started and with it comes a new theme for the Education Curriculum Library. For the next four months our focus is Mathematics. We have many new and fun ideas on display to make studying math interesting and stimulating. Math is all around us, we use it everyday. However it can be one of the most discouraging subjects for some students. Let us help you break that barrier and make math a favorite subject instead of the least favorite. We have two wonderful pathfinders entitled Money and Geometry.

Our manipulatives collection houses countless math teaching aids that are sure to excite students. We have various types of Bingo games including Beginning Money Bingo and Telling Time Bingo. Teach students about tessellations with our various tessellation sets and practice basic math skills with one of our many sets of flash cards. We also have a long list of CD-ROM’s dedicated to only math subjects. Be sure to test your math skills with our exercise in estimation set up on our desk.

The lucky person who guesses the right amount of Jelly Beans in our jar will get to eat them all! Learning math is fun and these ideas and teaching aids can make Math enjoyable for students and teachers.

Come check out our new Money pathfinder to find out about the new quarters being made this year. These are two of the first coins being made in honor of each state.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT

The Education Curriculum Library has a wonderful variety of books housed within its walls. You can find just about anything you need to help in teaching students. One of our favorite sets of books is actually a collection of the best ideas that have been published in The Mailbox magazine and organized as a Yearbook. There is a set of two books for each level (Primary, Preschool, Kindergarten, and Intermediate). They are full of wonderful activities to make learning more fun. Each book is indexed

by subject, holiday, and material. The book itself is divided into various units, such as Author, Literature, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Seasonal, so it is relatively easy to use. The Mailbox Yearbook was published beginning 1996-1997. All of the ideas are up to date and have been specially chosen to be in the year book. This wonderful set of books can be found in our Reference section of the Curriculum Library under Curr/Ref ActBks M219.

Looking for Supplies?
Its that time again. Valentine's Day is just around the corner. The Education Curriculum Library currently has a display of various art activity examples to use in your classroom. Also, you will never be short on ideas with the help of our new Pathfinder for Valentines Day which lists the latest resources found on our shelves. Included in the pathfinder is the history of Valentines day. Did you know that at one time in Rome marriage was banned? The priest who helped young lovers to marry was named

Valentine--hence the name of Valentines day. Be sure to come in and immerse yourself in the Education Curriculum Library Valentine experience.

Ever wonder where the
Curriculum Library gets all
of its wonderful teaching
aids, books and ideas? Well,
wonder no more--we get them
from a wonderful collection
of catalogs that we receive
every month from such
companies as Film Services
of Hawaii, Demco,
Constructive Playthings and
the Lerner Publishing Group.
Even better, we keep and
file them in a cabinet for
your use! No longer will you
be lacking in supplies or
fun activities. Many of the
catalogs have special
discounts and sales so you

can get quality items for a

cheaper price. So please come and make use of our resource of catalogs to enhance your teaching.
