So You're Soloing . . .

As student teachers prepare to be in the school for the full day next semester, the daunting task of soloing is quickly coming upon them. Being alone in the class for two full weeks may be overwhelming for some students, while exhilarating for others. Some student teachers actually look forward to this time so they can be relieved from the pressure of having others watch and evaluate them so closely. Others are leery of the insurmountable number of lesson plans they will have to write. Nevertheless, there is a lot of planning to do.

Do not fear! As you begin to prepare for this time and are conjuring up possible ideas and themes, don’t forget to check out the Education Curriculum Library. It’s resources have proven to be invaluable to student teachers during their soloing period, as at all times. Many of you know about our Pathfinders that list the best resources the Education Curriculum Library has to offer on specific themes. Pathfinders can be found on our Internet site at http://library.byuh.edu/ in the Education Curriculum Library section under Pathfinders. The ECL provides many periodicals for all grade levels. We also have manipulatives available to help you teach and explain the most difficult concepts. And last but not least, we have activity books to guide instruction for every subject.

Need ideas for a unit on reading? Need some visuals to make learning come alive? Look no further!
Reading is a core subject that can be extended
into different aspects of Language Arts, such as speaking and writing. It can also be integrated into other subject areas such as math and social studies. The Education Curriculum Library has many periodicals and workbooks that can make teaching reading easier for you. They provide several reproducible handouts and extension ideas for across the curriculum activities. For example, in the Literature and Critical Thinking activity books, there are twelve activities for each story. This is an excellent resource you won’t want to pass up!

We have teaching guides on hundreds of stories, (including the books listed on the right). Come in and take a look to see if the Education Curriculum Library has what you need.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Our Hidden Treasures

A pathfinder is a tool for patrons to discover and view resources on a given topic throughout the Education Curriculum Library’s collection. Just as a pathfinder points out the animals, the flora, and fauna on a jungle safari, the pathfinder points out areas of interest that might be missed, forgotten or unknown. The pathfinder does not do all the research for the patron but gives them a tool to guide their own research.
Some of our newest and most popular Pathfinders include:

Solar Systems
St. Patrick’s Day
Dinosaurs
The Rainforest

Pathfinders coming soon are:
Coral Reefs
MONEY

Come check out all of the ideas the Education Curriculum Library has for the Christmas season. We have books that teach about the history of Christmas, activity books, stories, picture books, poems, craft ideas, songs, and even bulletin board ideas. We also have a variety of seasonal fonts and clip art that would

be great to use in the classroom. To guide your search for the ideas we have for Christmas, view our Christmas Pathfinder on the Internet (http://library.byuh.edu) or in brochures we have the library.
