New Book of Photos
to Commemorate BYU-Hawaii's 50 Golden Years

BYU-Hawaii photobook

Want to relive the memories of your time at BYU-Hawaii campus? Do you want an attractive book of BYU-Hawaii photos to set on your end table?

From this School... — a book of photographs highlighting the BYU-Hawaii campus, its student life, and its legacy — is now in print and will be unveiled during the university's Golden Jubilee Week, October 15-23, 2005.

You can place an advance order now and pick up your copy on campus during that week, or order now for shipping to your home.

Similar to photobooks created in recent years by the Polynesian Cultural Center for its 40th anniversary and by Brigham Young University in Provo for the 2002 Winter Olympics, the BYU-Hawaii photobook features 9-by-24-inch spreads, a beautiful simulated leather binding, and more than 90 pages of photos — most of them never before published.

The diverse array of new photographs were captured for the book by Wally Barrus, who taught photography for more than 30 years at BYU and served on the Laie campus as a senior missionary for the LDS Church; Mark Philbrick, the current university photographer at BYU; and Monique Saenz, a BYU-Hawaii art alumna who currently serves as the official BYU-Hawaii photographer.

The pages include shots representing the natural beauty of Hawaii as seen around campus and the Laie community, scenes involving typical campus activities and current students, and, thanks to the miracles of digital photographic technologies, "refined" historical shots of landmark occurrences on campus.

From this School... showcases the theme of the university's 50th anniversary celebration and honors the 1955 declaration of BYU-Hawaii founder and former LDS Church President David O. McKay that "from this school... will go men who will be an influence for good toward the establishment of peace internationally."

The book is available for purchase only in a durable, hardcover binding at the very reasonable price of $30 through the BYU-Hawaii University Advancement office. Shipping is not included, but available at $6 for one book or $8 for two.
