The following descriptions of the BYU-Hawaii Golden Jubilee web site may help you better understand each page's content and also how to better utilize and enjoy the more interactive ones.
First, a couple of general directions: Links to every Golden Jubilee web page can be found on every page. You do not need to go to the home page unless you want to. Next, University Advancement staff will periodically update the content of some pages, so you are encouraged to check back throughout the jubilee year. Also, the content of some pages may still be under development and will be updated as soon as possible. Finally, this is a dynamic site: Please check back frequently.
More specifically:
- The Accommodations page lists some of the hotel and other travel arrangements and rates that the Golden Jubilee Steering Committee, the BYU-Hawaii Travel Services Office, and the Center for Instructional Technology and Outreach (CITO, which incorporated the former Division of Continuing Education) have arranged for alumni and others who may need accommodations on Oahu during the jubilee year.
- The Alumni Activities page encourages the CCH/BYU-Hawaii alumni chapters around the world to hold their respective Golden Jubilee observances for the benefit of those who will not be able to come to Laie. Links to details of those observances will be posted as they become available.
- The Alumni Scrapbook page is one of the most interactive portions of the Golden Jubilee site. Users are encouraged to submit digital copies of their photos and caption information for possible publication online. Submissions and approved postings will be acknowledged by e-mail.
- The Book Excerpts page, as named, includes selected sections of books covering the history of the Church College of Hawaii and Brigham Young University Hawaii.
- The BYU-Hawaii Timeline page contains highlights from the history of the University. Users can scroll through the entire history, starting with Elder David O. McKay's vision of the college on February 8, 1921, or can enter either a date or keywords to focus their search.
- The Calendar page contains current and historical Golden Jubilee details. Users can search any month in 2005 by using the pull-down menus to select the month — or clicking on the arrows on either side of the name of the month in the calendar , and then clicking on the desired date in that month. The information for that date, if there is any, will display in the window below the calendar. Calendar page entries for the current date are also displayed on the Golden Jubilee home page.
- The Contact Us page lists contact information for the Golden Jubilee Steering Committee co-chairs, the travel office, the CITO office, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and general contact information for BYU-Hawaii.
- The Favorite Faculty 'Blog' is another of the most interactive pages on this site. A 'blog' — short for "web log" — is a dynamic compilation of comments that users submit for online publication. In this case, we invite users to submit written comments about their favorite CCH/BYU-Hawaii faculty members. Users can search the faculty database by name, year or keywords. Click on the desired name, then click on "add comment," fill out the form, and click on "submit." Submissions, which will be acknowledged by e-mail, will be reviewd as soon as possible — sometimes the same day — and, if approved, will be posted on the Faculty 'Blog.' Submitters will also receive notification of the posting by e-mail. The Faculty 'Blog' window will display the most current postings, but users can view all postings, or sort the postings by year and keywords. Users can also respond to other 'blog' postings.
- The Faculty/Staff Events page lists Golden Jubilee activities specifically for the University's faculty and staff. These events will also be cross-listed on the Jubilee calendar.
- The Genuine Gold page — which uses the description President David O. McKay uttered on February 12, 1955, to describe the alumni of BYU-Hawaii — contains interviews with CCH/BYU-Hawaii alumni. Some of these interviews have previously been published, but many are original for this web site. We encourage any alumus who wants to share a "genuine gold" type of story to contact us.
- The History Sketches page will contain historical information not previously published in book form.
- The Interviews page contains accounts from CCH/BYU faculty, administrators, community members and others associated with the University who were not students.
- The Jubilee Week page contains a detailed breakout of all the activities planned for the main Golden Jubilee celebration from October 16-23, 2005. This information is also included in the calendar page on a daily basis.
- The Lecture Series page contains a schedule and description of academically oriented presentations during the Golden Jubilee year.
- The Meal Plans page contains on-campus meal options which Golden Jubilee visitors may wish to purchase.
- The Monthly Highlights page lists the theme for each month during the Golden Jubilee celebration.
- The PCC Tickets page lists the Polynesian Cultural Center's special discount offer for Golden Jubilee visitors. Users who plan to visit during the Golden Jubilee week from October 16-23, 2005, are especially encouraged to book tickets well in advance for the LDS Jubilee Day on Friday, October 21st.
- The Photo Book Orders page provides information on pre-ordering a copy of the large-size, high-quality BYU-Hawaii souvenir photo book that will be published during the jubilee year.
- The President's Message page contains President Eric B. Shumway's greetings all alumni, faculty, staff, friends and University supporters on the occasion of BYU-Hawaii's Golden Jubilee celebration.
- The Purchase Souvenirs page includes descriptions and ordering information on various souvenirs and other Golden Jubilee memorabilia that will be available for purchase.
- The Registration page contains a form to register through the BYU-Hawaii Center for Instructional Technology and Outreach (CITO) for various Golden Jubilee activities as well as to take advantage of special travel accommodations rates.
- The Update Your Profile page is a convenient way for alumni and University friends to update their contact information and to subscribe to the BYU-Hawaii Alumni e-Newsletter and the BYU-Hawaii Magazine.
