What we're about...

We, the Swing Club, follow certain guidelines set apart by Brigham Young University-Hawaii. It is part of the Clubs and Campus Organizations that take place on campus. What are the Clubs and Organizations that span BYU-Hawaii? Clubs and organizations are formed to enhance the BYU-Hawaii experience of all students creating a laboratory of learning and opportunities for leadership for studetns from all over the world. Other purposes include, and are not limited to, the following:

  1. To serve the school and the community
  2. To increase our professional and social skills
  3. To apply academic principles (and personal rhythms) to lead others
  4. To participate in social, cultural, and academic activities with students on a small group level
  5. To pursue a hobby or career
As with other clubs, we have a cool Daddy-o of an Advisor named Bret Swan. Brother Swan is in the School of Computing Department as a Professor and has the sole and important responsibility to advise. He meets with the Swing Club President regularly to discuss important concerns and upcoming events (The Swing President would love to hear your ideas so it can be brought to our advisor's attention). You might be wondering how you could get into this club. Well, for one thing, you do not need to know Swing to join the club. Membership in clubs and organizations at BYU-Hawaii is open ONLY to the following:
  1. Full-time Students and their spouses
  2. Faculty, staff or administrative personnel including spouse of each individual
  3. Alumni who have graduated from BYU-Hawaii and their spouses
  4. Part-time students with current BYUH ID
No department can force you to join neither can they make joining a criteria for a grade in a class...It is all voluntary. All is welcome to have a Swingin' good time.

Finally, we would like to leave you with some very important facts. Being a Swing Club, we get to add to the variety of cultural dances contained within this campus (this is the perfect opportunity to check out the Origins of Swing if you haven't yet) and enjoy the sounds of the Swing Era. Big Bands music and all that jazz will let loose the jump and jivin' Swingin Kat that is inside you. There are fun people to mingle with, great music to jive to, and memories to be had...
