Extend Myself
| Contributed by Paul Freebairn

This is what Extend Myself looks like to me.
Just wanted to drop a quick note of thanks for John Call for all of his help with the Testing Center. He has put in many long hours helping me "above and beyond" the call of duty. He is a great example of the cultural transition value of "extending yourself." I want all to know that he is deeply appreciated by me and others on campus. Even when he couldn't help me and I was frustrated, he sent help and they came right away. I've learned a lot in the process (trial and error, a few mistakes, etc.) and his guidance got me through it all. We now have 52 computers all up and running with all of the new programs, etc. for Testing (except one X300 which has a faulty motherboard and we're waiting for a part). This was no easy task. It's a privilege and honor to know him and to work with him. (sent to Bill Neal)
And that's what Extend Myself looks like to me.

Own It

There is a great deal of difference between "cultural beliefs", which is what the e-mail said (and what at least one speaker within the last year said) and a Culture of Beliefs, which is what the phrase is supposed to be. This can be very confusing, if the phrase is not right.
And that's what Own It looks like to me.

Value Everyone

This is what Value Everyone looks like to me.
In the United States we grow up in the church being taught that only people of the Republican Party are of any value. I have asked students from all over the world if in their country they have "one true party" that all the LDS church members think they must belong to. In all cases they have responded that members belong to all parties and do not look down on people for their political beliefs. Cool ya?
And that's what Value Everyone looks like to me.

Right after the 2006 Cultural Transitions training, Lurline Nunu, Kim Austin, Paul Buckingham, John E, Lorraine Matagi, Eric Shumway, Eugenia Lawrence, 'Isileli Kongaika, Napua Baker, Duane Roberts, Farina McCarthy-Stonex, Bill Neal, Arapata Meha, Wes Duke, Roy Yamamoto, and Mike Bliss responded immediately with appreciative and constructive feedback that was complete, clear, and concise. They offered feedback that helped me learn how to do my job better. I value that growth.

Own It

This is what Own It looks like to me.
I needed to return materials sent to us immediately to the Church Offices and attempted to contact CDC personnel. James Kammerer, a student, answered the phone, picked the boxes up within 15 minutes, packaged and sent it out, and followed up with the tracking numbers all within the hour. He could have referred it to "higher-ups", taken a message OR waited until tomorrow; instead he took it upon himself to get it done quickly, correctly and all the while with a smile on his face.
And that's what Own It looks like to me.
