Barry Mitchell came to BYUH in 1996 after teaching 23 years at the high school level in New Zealand where his subject areas were science subjects and computing. Barry completed his PhD graduate program in 1988 in the School of Education in Brigham Young University - Provo. Barry now teaches education courses, mentors both Secondary and Elementary Education students and is the Chair of the Secondary Education program.
The special interests that Barry has are related to the subjects which he teaches which are Edu 385: Classroom Assessment, Eled 360: Measurement for Special Education, Edu 301: A Multicultural Approach to Reading in the Content Areas, Sced 491 Observation and Practicum, and Sced 492: Student Teaching.
Barry believes in helping students move steadily through the program and so has an open door policy to talk, problem solve on the difficulties of life, and generally get things done.
He also fixes cars, paints and builds houses (everthing-foundation to roof), SCUBA dives, loves motorcycles, and can fix most anything mechanical that is broken.
